What is Art Therapy?
Art Therapy is a form of therapy that uses creativity and art-making to help people explore their
thoughts, feelings and experiences. It is based on the idea that making art can help us express
things that can sometimes be difficult to put into words. Through the creative process,
client's can gain a better understanding of themselves, work through challenges,
manage stress and emotions, build confidence and develop greater self-awareness.
Art Therapy is more than simply making art or doing a craft activity. It involves exploring and reflecting on
what we create and what it may be telling us about our thoughts, feelings and experiences
— including things that may be happening beneath our conscious awareness.
Art-making on its own can also be calming, enjoyable and beneficial for our wellbeing. The difference
is that Art Therapy uses the creative process within a therapeutic relationship to explore
and understand what is going on for the individual.

Exhalia Therapy provides a safe and comfortable space for students to express themselves whether that be through Art, movement or words.
SELF EXPRESSION
BELONGING
A human need is to belong. Exhalia Therapy's groups strive to build connections and a sense of belonging not only to the group but to themselves.
Art Therapy promotes connection to our unconscious, our deeper selves, once we understand ourselves more we can than feel more stable in branching out to create meaningful connections with others.
